Netflix unveils trailer and release dates for Zack Snyder’s 'Star Wars'-inspired epic, 'Rebel Moon'
Zack Snyder is no stranger to genre-hopping. He has explored zombies, superheroes, owls, and female empowerment in his diverse filmography. Now, he ventures into a new territory: science fiction. Snyder’s ambitious space opera was a tough pitch. It started as a Star Wars spin-off inspired by Seven Samurai, but without the familiar characters, it was a tough sell for Lucasfilm. Undeterred, Snyder brought his 172-page script to Netflix, where it became a two-part epic: Rebel Moon: Part One — A Child of Fire and Rebel Moon: Part Two — The Scargiver. And the first movie’s trailer and the release dates for both parts have just been revealed.
At Gamescom, Zack Snyder teased a video game tie-in and praised Netflix for supporting his duology vision. Part One debuts on Netflix on December 23, while Part Two follows on April 19, 2024. He also spotlighted Anthony Hopkins — whose voice narrates the trailer — and his robotic role but claimed Sofia Boutella was the soul of the story.
Rebel Moon tells the tale of a young woman from a tranquil colony at the edge of the galaxy. She must recruit warriors to repel an invasion by the tyrannical Regent Balisarius. The trailer gives off a gritty and dark version of Star Wars.
