Apple introduces Watch Series 9 with new double-tap gesture
Apple unveiled the Apple Watch Series 9 at its “Wonderlust” event on Tuesday. The new smartwatch looks the same as the previous model, but has a faster processor, better sensors, and a brighter display.
The Series 9 features the S9 SiP (system in a package), which has a faster CPU and GPU than the Series 6 from 2020. This means apps will load faster and the system will boot quicker. The S9 SiP also has an improved version of Apple’s ultra-wideband chip, which can detect the precise location of other devices with the same technology. This enables new features for finding your iPhone or other items.
The heart rate sensor on the Series 9 has been upgraded to be more accurate, and the gyroscope has been enhanced to support a new double-tap gesture that lets you control the Apple Watch without touching the screen.
The display on the Series 9 can reach up to 2000 nits of brightness when in use, or just 1 nit when in standby mode.
The Apple Watch Series 9 comes in a new pink colour to match the new iPhone 15 and 15 Plus and will be available from September 22. It starts at $549.
