Apple launches iPhone 15, 15 Plus with USB-C ports

AppleApple today unveiled the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, the latest additions to its flagship smartphone lineup. The new iPhones boast enhanced performance, Dynamic Island display technology from the iPhone 14 Pro, new colours, and a USB-C port that replaces the Lightning connector.

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus feature 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screens, respectively. The displays can reach up to 2000 nits of peak brightness this time, making them ideal for viewing in any lighting condition.

The new iPhones come in five stunning colours: pink, yellow, green, blue, and black. The colours are embedded throughout the glass, creating a seamless and elegant appearance.

We also get a new camera system on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. The main camera now has a 48-megapixel sensor, the same as the iPhone 14 Pro series. This allows for 1x and 2x optical zoom. It still gets the 0.5x ultra-wide lens.

The portrait mode on the new iPhones has also been improved, with better low-light performance and more realistic bokeh effects. You can also adjust the focus after taking a photo, thanks to the depth map data that is stored with the image.

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are powered by the A16 Bionic chip, which was first introduced in the iPhone 14 Pro models. The A16 chip has a six-core CPU and a five-core GPU, delivering fast and smooth performance.

You can expect the same battery life as the iPhone 14, but the iPhone 15 Plus has a larger battery that lasts even longer. You can charge the new iPhones using the USB-C port, which is compatible with a wide range of accessories.

The new iPhones also feature a second-generation Ultra-Wideband chip, which improves the accuracy and range of locating people and items. You can now use Precision Finding to navigate to a person, not just an item with an AirTag attached.

Apple has also added a new feature for emergency situations: roadside assistance. In the US, this will be offered for AAA members. The emergency SOS feature is free for two years with an iPhone 15 purchase; Apple has not disclosed pricing after that.

The Apple iPhone 15 starts at CA$1,129, while the iPhone 15 Plus starts at CA$1,279. You can pre-order the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus on September 15, and they will start shipping on September 22.
