Microsoft unveils Surface Laptop Go 3

Microsoft

Microsoft has just launched the successor to the Surface Laptop Go 2. The new Surface Laptop Go 3 gets upgraded internals, including a new system running on the 12th-gen Intel Core i5 CPU and Intel Iris Xe graphics, which Microsoft claims to offer an 88% speed bump over the original Surface Laptop Go that arrived at the end of 2020.

The Surface Laptop Go 3 is designed for portability, weighing less than 2.5 pounds, and featuring a 12.4-inch touchscreen. It also has two Studio mics and Dolby Atmos–tuned speakers for a better audio experience. Moreover, Microsoft promises up to 15 hours of battery life on a single charge.

One of the most appealing aspects of the Surface Laptop Go 3 is its design. We loved the spiffy gold hue that Microsoft calls Sandstone, but it also comes in Ice Blue, Sage green, and Platinum Silver. The lid and keyboard deck have a nice feel and a great glimmer when the light hits them just right. And then there are recycled plastic materials used for the underside that should offer a pleasant tactile experience.

The only downside of the Laptop Go 3 is its display resolution. This laptop ships with a 1536 × 1024 touchscreen display, which is disappointing in 2023, especially at this price point. You should be able to get Full HD 1080p resolution on a modern laptop.

The Surface Laptop Go 3 starts at $1,099.99 in Canada, with a slated release date of October 3.
