Growl makes a subscription-based interactive punching bag
If you're looking for a boxing trainer in your home, Growl is a startup looking to launch a wall-mounted fitness device made to address your needs. The Growl device encourages interactivity with its screen that doubles as your punching bag. It uses sensors and projectors to bring this concept to life.
Using projectors also helps make the experience more immersive. The main screen, which is half a punching bag's size, promises resistance similar to the real thing. There's even a life-size virtual trainer you can throw punches at or play interactive fitness games similar to Beat Saber but for punches. It will detect when you've punched it via infrared time-of-flight sensors, turning the screen into a large touchscreen of sorts.
You get to see your progress and metrics on the walls around the Growl. It can show how long you've worked out, calories burned, and suggestions for improving your form and technique.
But, as The Verge noted, it comes at a pretty steep price. Pricing for its unlimited family access is expected to start at US$150 (around CA$211) per month on a 48-month plan or $190 (~CA$267) a month for 36 months. That puts its price tag at US$7,200 (~CA$10,135) for four years or US$6,480 (~CA$9,121) for three. Like Peloton's machines, you own the Growl at the end of the subscription period.
