Apple rumoured to expand AI offerings with potential Google Gemini and Anthropic deal

Disappointed that ChatGPT is the only AI model on Apple devices? Don't fret. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is set to announce a partnership with Google to integrate its advanced Gemini AI model this fall. This news comes hot on the heels of rumours surrounding iOS 18's chatbot capabilities, and even Apple's software chief, Craig Federighi, hinted at such a collaboration.

Anthropic is also in the mix, with a potential deal on the horizon. However, Meta's Llama chatbot was deemed insufficient for Apple's standards.

Beyond these partnerships, Apple is developing its own AI system, Apple Intelligence, with a beta launch planned for this fall. Unlike previous AI endeavours focused on hardware sales, Apple aims to generate direct revenue through subscription-based Apple Intelligence features. While this could be a game-changer, its impact on iPhone sales and the quality of the initial offering remain uncertain.

In the meantime, Apple will benefit financially from in-app purchases related to its AI partners' chatbot subscriptions. This influx of revenue will help support the development of Apple Intelligence.

While users eagerly await the full potential of Apple Intelligence, third-party AI services like ChatGPT and Gemini offer a glimpse into the future of AI integration. While these tools provide exciting possibilities, it's essential to remember that they are essentially sophisticated data processing systems with limitations.
