Android users seeking alternatives to Google's Gemini assistant now have the option to set other artificial intelligence chatbots as their default. The latest beta version of ChatGPT allows users to replace Gemini, providing a new level of customization.
As reported by Android Authority, setting ChatGPT as the default digital assistant streamlines access. Users can launch ChatGPT by long-pressing the home button, swiping from the bottom corner with gesture navigation, or, if enabled, long-pressing the power button for voice mode. However, users should note that setting ChatGPT as the default means losing the ability to activate it with a custom hot word, a feature reserved for trusted, pre-installed apps.
To switch, users must have ChatGPT v1.2025.070 beta installed. They can then navigate to Settings > Apps > Default apps > Digital assistant app and select ChatGPT.
