Dell uses reclaimed automotive windshields in backpacks

Why write about sustainability on a tech website? With the increasing trend of global waste generation, it’s worth a moment to consider the environmental impact of all these devices in our markets. Instead of the environment being an after-thought, Dell Technologies has intentionally incorporated sustainable solutions as an overall business objective. For example, since 2008, they’ve been using recycled water bottles and CD cases in PC’s, displays, and servers. “The sustainability concept is integrated into our design strategy. It’s already embedded in our DNA so everything we’ve designed, we’ll think of the product from end-to-end,” explains Vivian Tai, Senior Manager (APJ Region), Global Product Compliance & Environmental Affairs.

Get ready to see more lifestyle focus from Dell

Personal computers are here to stay. This is what DELL firmly believes and they’ve been proactive in making sure their products are relevant to their users. According to Justin Lyles, VP Consumer Design, DELL looks at “... areas we can bring innovation and a different point of view on how we can make it better for the customer.”

Their strategy is to focus innovation to bring meaningful features to their products. Case in point – the infamous webcam being placed at the bottom of the screen in the previous generation XPS. Lyles concedes that it’s not the best placement for a webcam particularly as it shows users in an unflattering angle.

First impressions: Huawei Mate 20 Pro

As the Motoring Editor, I appreciate technology in smartphones because vehicles have similar advances. What we see revealed in the smartphone industry is shared in the automotive industry. Case-in-point, AI technology is now used in smartphones and new vehicles.

The Huawei Mate20Pro is released in Canada this week (November 8) through major carriers and I had the opportunity to test out the device since its global reveal in London, UK last month. With a few weeks under my belt, I wanted to experience the value of Huawei’s newest smartphone in my everyday routine and share with you a practical review.
