Pixelmator integrates iOS 9 features in update

Pixelmator’s latest update readies it for the new iOS 9 features. The photo editing app now supports multitasking on the iPad by taking advantage of the Slide Over and Split View modes. It’ll only work on an iPad Air 2, Mini 4, and iPad Pro, at the moment though. The app also now has support for 8K-resolution images. It’s possible for you to copy these images to the iOS clipboard, too. You can now also open files from anywhere and save these in the same location with “Open in Place” or you can open an image from Photos and overwrite those files afterwards.

First look at the Apple iPad mini 4

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

The new laminated display, which was introduced with iPad Air 2, now makes images pop even more on iPad mini 4 and viewing the display outdoors is way less painful than with previous versions.

The iPad mini 4 has been slimmed down and powered up. Apple's smallest tablet was briefly mentioned during the iPhone 6S, iPad Pro and Apple TV launch event a few weeks ago, but it wasn't even on display at the demo area, this is likely because the focus had to be on the iPad Pro. Apple's littlest iPad now comes up big in terms of key hardware as well as software improvements.

Track your sleeping habits with Sleep++ for the Apple Watch

Want to find out how well you’re sleeping through the night? A new native app for the Apple Watch called Sleep++ can do just that. Once you tell the app you’re heading to bed, it’ll use the motion capture capabilities of the Apple Watch to sense your movement throughout the night. When you wake up in the morning and tell it that you’re ready to get out of bed, it’ll give you simple metrics on how well you slept. It shows you when you were in deep sleep and when you were restless. The app works even if your Apple Watch is in Airplane Mode. It’s also capable of feeding information into your iPhone’s Health app.

According to the app’s creator David Smith, it drains just about 10 percent of your Apple Watch’s battery overnight. But that still depends on how much you sleep. It’s a free app but with an optional in-app purchase to get rid of ads. You’ll need watchOS 2 to get this app to run.

Apple Music Festival venue gets ‘environmental makeover’

One of Apple’s goals is supposedly to “leave the world better than they found it.” That’s why even the venue they use for their annual Music Festival, London’s Roundhouse, has received an “environmental makeover.” According to Apple’s environmental head Lisa P. Jackson, “We’re making major upgrades to the lighting, plumbing, and HVAC systems; installing recycling and composting bins; arranging to turn used fryer oil into biofuel; buying renewable energy credits to cover the Roundhouse's September electricity use; and offering reusable water bottles instead of plastic ones.”

Apple says they expect that the changes they’ve made could reduce Roundhouse’s annual emissions by 60 tons. It’ll also save Roundhouse 60,000 gallons of water per year and divert over 1,600 kilograms of waste from landfills.
