Video: HP's new LaserJet m553n Enterprise printer speed test

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

HP revealed its new line of re-engineered LaserJet Colour printers yesterday. Starting from the toner, HP's refined the process to ensure 33% more printing capacity and even faster performance. Because of their innovation, printers wake from sleep faster than ever before and can tackle print jobs quicker. Compared with DELL's enterprise printer, the m553n can print 8 pages before the competitor's printer warms up and begins its first page.

This may not be a big deal for home offices or SMB's, but in workplaces where various users need to print multiple pages quickly, every second matters. The new HP LaserJets come to Canada and the US on April 1.

Video: A demo of Private Printing functionality on HP's new LaserJet Enterprise printers

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

We were at HP's DeskJet Printer launch event yesterday and got to see how security, cloud computing and user-verification now plays into private printing. The demo above shows how you can print virtually to a cloud printer, which docks your print jobs for up to three days.

When you're at your office and in front of the printer, you can then authenticate using your office proximity card or a PIN or password in order to access your docked documents and print them directly on any connected printer. This is ideal for when documents, files, contracts and other critical information is to be kept away from priying eyes. Stay tuned for a few more innovation demos coming from the HP event.

MakerBot releases Android app

MakerBot has finally made its way to Android. This means you can control your 3D printer right from your Android device. The app is pretty similar to the iOS version. It lets you choose a design from the collection on Thingiverse or from your own library. You can scale and adjust them and then send them to the printer.

You can even monitor the progress right from the printer’s built-in camera and pause and resume printing as needed. The app is available for free on Google Play and works with MakerBot Replicator, MakerBot Replicator Mini, and MakerBot Replicator Z18.
