Is Sony planning to release a new PS5 with a detachable disc drive?

Photo: Sony

Sony has not confirmed anything, but a new PlayStation 5 console may be coming soon. The rumours of a redesigned PS5 have been around for almost a year. One insider says he knows the release date. Sony usually makes mid-generation consoles. For example, the PS4 Pro and the PS4 Slim came after the PS4. The PS5 is three years old now, so people are wondering: What's next?

Some insiders say the new PS5 has a detachable disc drive. This means Sony only needs to make one base console. Players can choose to buy the disc drive or not. Reports claim it could come out sometime in September after an August launch. This is still a rumour, so don't get too excited. But it's hard to ignore when so many are going around.

The agreement ends more than a year of failed negotiations between the two tech giants over the fate of Call of Duty, which is typically the best-selling game of each year and has a loyal fan base across both platforms.

Sony reveals Project Q, a handheld device for streaming PS5 games

Photo: SonySony has teased Project Q, a handheld gaming device that lets you stream PlayStation 5 games to a portable screen. The device uses Remote Play to connect to your PS5 console over Wi-Fi and play any game except for PlayStation VR2 titles. Project Q has an 8-inch LCD screen with 1080p resolution and 60Hz refresh rate, and a built-in DualSense controller with all the functions except for the touchpad, which is expected to be replaced by the touchscreen. You will need to have the PS5 games downloaded on your console to stream them, as Project Q does not support native or cloud gaming yet. Sony hasn't announced the price of Project Q, but it plans to launch it later this year.
