PlayStation Portal: Everything you need to know about Sony’s portable PlayStation

Sony

Sony’s portable PlayStation, the PlayStation Portal, is set to launch later this year. This handheld device lets you stream PlayStation 5 games over Wi-Fi on an eight-inch LCD screen running at 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second. The PlayStation Portal will cost USD 199.99 and will be available in time for the holidays.

The PlayStation Portal has controllers on its sides resembling the PS5 DualSense controllers. They have adaptive triggers and haptic feedback to make PS5 games feel immersive and realistic. The PlayStation Portal can also play media content because it mirrors your PS5. However, you need a Wi-Fi connection to use the PlayStation Portal since it does not support offline gaming.

'Red Dead Redemption' comes to PS4 and Switch, but is it worth it?

Image: Rockstar Games

Rockstar has just announced that Red Dead Redemption, the critically acclaimed Western game from 2010, is coming to Sony PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on August 17. This might sound like good news for fans who have been waiting for a chance to play this classic on modern consoles, but some major drawbacks make these ports disappointing and overpriced.

First of all, these are not remakes or remasters, but simple ports with minimal changes. The graphics, framerate, and gameplay are the same as 13 years ago. The only new feature is the addition of some new languages. This means that PS4 and PS5 owners will not get to enjoy the game in 60fps or with enhanced visuals, and Switch owners will have to settle for a lower resolution and performance.

Leaked images show PlayStation’s new handheld Project Q device

Photo: Sony

PlayStation has been developing a gaming handheld accessory for the PS5, codenamed Project Q, but details have been scarce since its first reveal. However, new images and a video of the device surfaced online over the weekend, revealing more about its operating system.

The leaks, which were posted on Reddit, Imgur, and Twitter by user Zuby_Tech, show that Project Q is running on the Android operating system. The OS looks very basic and probably not the final version for the handheld.

The images also give us a glimpse of Project Q’s internal components. According to the initial announcement, the device consists of an 8-inch tablet flanked by DualSense Controllers. The most notable feature of the leaked images is that the controllers are not detachable from the tablet. But like with any other leak, we always have to take them with a grain of salt.
