A ‘MacGyver’ movie and TV show are coming

Ingenuity, duct tape, a Swiss Army knife, and whatever else is lying around are needed to show the young ones that you sometimes need more than a smartphone to get things done. To give them a look of a world before mobile devices, a MacGyver movie along with a new reboot series will be coming. Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer made the announcement during a recent earnings call with analysts. He didn’t reveal too many details about the new TV show CBS ordered as well as the movie. But he did say the film will be produced by series creator Lee David Zlotoff and Neal Moritz, who also produced the Fast And The Furious franchise. The series will be a prequel to the original TV show. And since they’re both Lionsgate projects, we want to assume that they’ll be somehow connected.

Nielsen adds Facebook to measure popularity of TV shows online

Nielsen used to only use Twitter chatter to measure how popular a television show is online. Now, Facebook will be included in rating the popularity of shows on the web. Nielsen will be calling it Social Content Ratings, which replaces the existing Twitter TV Ratings, and it’ll track live activity during awards shows, original series premieres, and sporting events.

The information it gets from Facebook will be the stuff you share publicly or those you share with friends and followers. These will be included in the ratings Nielsen will release for the first half of 2016. They won’t get the specifics on the content, though. Instead, Facebook will be offering aggregate data. We won’t be surprised if Instagram is the next to be added and your memes might be put to use.

'Heroes Reborn' won't live past season 1

If you wanted more Heroes Rebornyou're in for a bit of a disappointment. The series won't be coming back after it wraps its 13-episode season. NBC Entertainment President Bob Greenblatt told reporters the news at the Television Critics Association winter previews on Wednesday. It's not entirely surprising that the series will just be a one-off thing as ratings for the show kept going down after the series premiere. It would seem people want to leave Heroes as it is.

Netflix promises to restore missing ‘Lost’ finale footage

(Mario Perez/ABC)

You can stop with your conspiracy theories. The missing footage (around 18 minutes worth) of Lost’s series finale didn’t disappear inside the baffling universe of the TV show when you rewatched it on Netflix. The current hypothesis is Netflix may have gotten a version cut down for syndication. But they plan to rectify this problem. The show’s creator Damon Lindelof expressed his “beffudlement” over the issue during an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“Something tells me that this isn’t Netflix’s fault … that it’s an honest mistake and something got miscommunicated — I seem to remember ABC had to make an edit for rerun airings that tightened the show into ‘format’ (42 minutes to accommodate commercials), and somehow that [version] mistakenly got sent to Netflix," Lindelof said. "This sometimes happened with our finales—we’d ask for extra time and ABC would agree to air, but then we had to do another tighter version for subsequent airings and/or international [markets]. We usually left these (painful) cuts to the discretion of our editors… but as the show lives on in DVD form and on Netflix, there is ZERO reason to have the shorter version out there.” So, just hold off watching the finale again until Netflix fixes the issue.
