Amazon is reportedly working on a 'Tomb Raider' TV show & film

Graphic: Amazon

Amazon Studios' latest venture into the video game adaptation space involves Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge and the Tomb Raider franchise. The studio is reportedly working on a television show based on the game, with Waller-Bridge serving as writer and executive producer. She isn't expected to star in it, though.

And recent rumours claim Amazon Studios is also working on a movie adaptation. However, we aren't sure if Waller-Bridge is attached to this project, too. This isn't the only video game adaptation Amazon is working on. The studio announced in December that a God of War TV show is in the works. And within the Tomb Raider universe, Amazon will publish the next game from Cyrstal Dynamics. The company hasn't responded to comments about these reports yet. We should hear more about it if and when things become official.

Check out the new 'Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power' trailer

I didn't realize I felt starved for new Lord of the Rings content until now. Amazon Studios dropped a new trailer for its big-budget series, The Lord of the Rings: The Ring of Power. This series takes place during the Second Age of Middle-Earth, a thousand years before the events of Lord of the Rings. It takes inspiration from J.R.R. Tolkien's Silmarillion but features characters and a completely original plot.

It will chronicle the rise of Sauron and the forging of the rings. Galadriel (played by Morfydd Clark) tries to convince elvish people that evil is still lurking on Middle-Earth. And she takes it upon herself to do something about it when people don't listen to her. Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will debut on September 2 on Prime Video.

Amazon Studios has a show based on Bethesda's Fallout coming out in the future. The studio said it planned to kick off production later this year. We get a casting update for the video game adaptation. Actor Walton Goggins joins the cast in one of its lead roles. Amazon hasn't revealed what role he'll play, but reports claim he could play a ghoul. In Fallout parlance, this refers to someone who mutated due to radiation exposure from the nuclear war.

The series was announced back in 2020, and it looks like things are finally picking up. Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy of Westworld fame are behind the production, with Nolan directing the pilot. Executive producers of the show include Bethesda's Todd Howard, the game director of Fallout 3 and Fallout 4.

Ridley Scott to produce new 'Blade Runner' show for Amazon Prime Video

Source: Warner Bros

Blade Runner will live on once more. But this time, it'll become a television series for Amazon Prime Video. The company reportedly tapped original Blade Runner director Ridley Scott to executive produce the series. It'll be entitled Blade Runner 2099 and take place 50 years after the events of Denis Villeneuve's 2017 film, Blade Runner 2049.

That film itself was set 30 years after Scott's original adaptation of Philip K Dick's novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Blade Runner 2099 will be co-produced by Silka Luisa, who is currently showrunning Shining Girls for Starz. Luisa will also be the lead writer for the series. Rumour has it Amazon Studios is fast-tracking the development of the series and is looking to establish a writers room to join Luisa soon. It isn't guaranteed, but Scott could also return to direct the show. We're sure to hear more about this if Amazon pushes through with the project.
