Ridley Scott to produce new 'Blade Runner' show for Amazon Prime Video
Blade Runner will live on once more. But this time, it'll become a television series for Amazon Prime Video. The company reportedly tapped original Blade Runner director Ridley Scott to executive produce the series. It'll be entitled Blade Runner 2099 and take place 50 years after the events of Denis Villeneuve's 2017 film, Blade Runner 2049.
That film itself was set 30 years after Scott's original adaptation of Philip K Dick's novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Blade Runner 2099 will be co-produced by Silka Luisa, who is currently showrunning Shining Girls for Starz. Luisa will also be the lead writer for the series. Rumour has it Amazon Studios is fast-tracking the development of the series and is looking to establish a writers room to join Luisa soon. It isn't guaranteed, but Scott could also return to direct the show. We're sure to hear more about this if Amazon pushes through with the project.
