OnePlus 3/3T and 5/5T won’t support Project Treble

We know that Android 8.1 Oreo is coming to both the OnePlus 5/5T devices as well as the OnePlus 3/3T. The latter is especially welcome news. There is no specific time table for the updates yet. But we find out more information about it. One of the newest pieces of information we got is that the company will not support Project Treble, a feature that aims to bring faster updates to Android devices. This does this by separating the operating system code from the vendor code, letting vendors push key OS updates to the phones without the need to re-optimize their own codes. OnePlus Staff Member Adam Krisko, who was doing an AMA on the OnePlus Forums, broke the news but he didn’t say why they didn’t intend to support Treble for these devices.

OnePlus 5 and 5T to get beta builds of Oreo before the end of 2017

With the OnePlus 5T just launched, it comes with Android 7.1.1 out of the box. But Oreo isn’t too far behind. Or at least the beta version is coming. OnePlus plans to include the 5T and its predecessor the OnePlus 5 in its open beta program, where they are already testing out both the OnePlus 3 and 3T. The OnePlus 5 will be the first to be included in the program by “late November,” while the 5T will be added “late December.” According to OnePlus, the staggered inclusion is because the software in the latter is more complicated. A few weeks after that the 3 and 3T will be getting the final versions of Oreo since they’ve been tested and developed for a while already. Expect to get final Android 8.0 builds for the 5 and 5T by “early 2018.”

Essential outs beta build of Android Oreo for the Essential Phone

It seems we might be well on our way to getting Android Oreo on the Essential Phone. The startup did promise to release update for the latest Android operating system soon and it looks like we’re well on the way to that. Essential just made a beta version of the update available through its developer portal. You don’t have to be a developer to access it. It’s available to anyone who’s interested to try out the pre-release software. To get it, you’ll need to sign up for beta builds and grab the update as a download and sideload it to your device. You would also need the latest ADB tool and a bit of technical know-how to get this going though. So it’s not exactly for newbies. Plus, pre-release builds are not stable so if this is your main phone, you will need to proceed with caution.

HTC U11 tipped to get Android Oreo update in November

HTC already said back in August that they were bringing the Android Oreo to the U11, specifically in the fourth quarter of the year. And it seems like the company might be staying true to their word. Twitter tipster LlabTooFeR claims the update is in its final stages of development and will being rolling out between November and early December time frame. HTC hasn’t confirmed the report.

Aside from the U11, the HTC U Ultra and HTC 10 are going to receive Android 8.0 update, too. However, there is no word yet when the update will be coming to these devices.
