Classic 'Angry Birds' game gets delisted on Google Play

Graphic: Rovio

If you want to get your hands on the rebuilt version of the classic Angry Birds game on Android, you must do that quickly. Rovio Classics: Angry Birds will be delisted from the Google Play Store this Thursday due to "the game's impact" on Rovio's games portfolio. Strangely, the Apple App Store version will remain, but the developer plans to change the game's name to Red's First Flight.

The Verge speculates that Rovio is delisting the game, so people use its free-to-play titles that rely more on microtransactions. The Rovio Classics version is a one-time purchase, so it won't make them as much money as the other Angry Birds titles. It's unclear why Rovio didn't just decide to rename the game like on the Apple App Store. If you're looking for the game, it's technically listed as Rovio Classics: AB, making it look like Rovio is really trying to bury the title.

Netflix orders 'Angry Birds' animated series

Angry Birds: Summer of Madness follow tween birds Red, Bomb, and Chuck (Netflix)

Here's some good news for your kids or the kids at heart. An Angry Birds animated series is in the works for Netflix. The streaming service ordered a 40-episode series called Angry Birds: Summer of Madness, based on the popular mobile video game turned movie franchise. The series is slated to launch sometime in 2021 with 11-minute episodes that follow the tone of the Angry Birds film franchise. The show comes from the original game's Finish producer Rovio Entertainment and kids' production house Cake, which already sells Rovio TV shows internationally.

The series will star beloved Angry Birds characters Red, Bomb, and Chuck and other new feathered friends. The series is set during the time they are tween birds attending summer camp under the "questionable guidance" of counsellor Mighty Eagle. Expect tons of hijinx and other crazy summertime adventures as they try to push boundaries and break the rules while trying to fend off the Pigs on the other side of the lake.

Trailer for first ‘Angry Birds’ RPG comes out

Rovio has unveiled that the medieval-themed Angry Birds game is going to be the franchise’s first RPG entry through its first trailer. Angry Birds Epic will be free to play and feature leveling mechanics and collectible items. It makes use of the same cartoon graphics with turn-based combat. Hopefully, in-app purchases and advertisements won’t ruin the experience as much. The game is coming out today in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand to obtain feedback on the game before its international release.
