iOS 17 brings new stickers features to Messages

GIF: Apple

Apple also announced another major update to its Messages app in iOS 17. This time, the focus is on stickers. Stickers are now integrated into the emoji keyboard, making them easier to use in any app that supports them. You can also create your stickers from photos with a simple tap-and-hold gesture that lets them cut out any subject from an image. These custom stickers can be enhanced with effects and animations. You can even turn Live Photos into Live Stickers.

Live Stickers are a new way to express yourself with moving images that capture the mood and personality of your friends and family. You can access all your stickers from a new drawer on the keyboard.

New small tweaks on iMessage for iOS 17

These iMessage features joins the new Check In feature (Image: Apple)

iMessage has new features that make communication easier and more enjoyable. Apple cleaned up iMessage apps by moving them into an expandable menu. It'll show your most used apps first. Search filters get more refined to help you find what you need quickly and accurately.

There's also a new catch-up arrow that lets you jump to the first unread message in a conversation. Inline replies are also just a swipe away. As for live location updates and audio message transcriptions, you can access that within the chat.

iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 leave behind older iPhones and iPad

Photo: Apple

Apple has discontinued support for iPhones X, 8, and 8 Plus in iOS 17, ending the hopes of many users who wanted to keep their 2017 models updated for another year. While iOS 16 dropped all devices older than the iPhone 7 and the first-gen iPhone SE, this is the latest crop of older iPhone devices to get the boot. Similarly, iPadOS 17 will no longer support the first-gen iPad Pro and fifth-gen iPad from its support list.
