Apple tipped to delay MacBook Air OLED launch

We might not see an OLED MacBook Air until four years from now. A new report from the Korean publication The Elec said Apple might not add an OLED screen to its MacBook Air line until 2028. The OLED MacBook Air was originally tipped to launch in 2027.

The report cited component industry sources claiming the postponement reflects growing production costs and pricing concerns. Apple is reportedly considering how this premium display technology could impact prices and keep people from buying. Apple hasn't responded to CNET to comment about the report.

Apple gives MacBook Air a 16GB RAM upgrade

Photo: Apple

Aside from debuting the new iMac, Mac mini, and MacBook Pro, Apple made a small yet important update to the MacBook Air. The M2 and M3 models now have 16GB of RAM as their minimum memory. You used to have to spend extra to get 16GB of RAM on your MacBook Air, but now the laptop is more in line with its competitors and the rest of Apple's computer lineup. This means the 8GB RAM option is no longer available for an Apple computer.

The most likely reason for the upgrade is Apple Intelligence. Artificial intelligence models usually require a lot of RAM to work well, and 16GB seems like the minimum you'll need for these machines to run more smoothly. The Apple MacBook Air starts at $1,299 in Canada for the M2 model, $1,449 for the 13-inch M3 model, and $$1,749 for the 15-inch M3 model.

Apple supplier hints at 15-inch MacBook Air debut next month

Apple supplier Quanta Computer expects to assemble more notebooks in Q2 2023, likely due to new MacBooks, according to research shared by investment firm Morgan Stanley. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo have reported that Apple will launch a 15-inch MacBook Air with the M2 chip at Worldwide Developer's Conference in June. It's unclear if the company plans to introduce other MacBook models, but we don't have long to wait. WWDC will kick off on June 5 and run through June 9.

Apple 15" MacBook Air, Apple Silicon Mac Pro reportedly in the works

Aside from the iMac, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports in his weekly newsletter that Apple is getting ready to release the long-rumoured 15-inch version of the MacBook Air. The company is also supposedly working on a refresh for the 13-inch variant as well as the first Apple Silicon-powered Mac Pro. He expects these Macs to arrive sometime between late spring and sometime in summer. But it isn't clear if these new MacBook Airs will ship with an M3 processor. But he speculates "at least" the 13-inch model could feature the new chip given there's an M2 version of it already.
