Apple’s 16-inch MacBook Pro might get an update in September

Rumour has it the 16-inch version of the MacBook Pro is getting refreshed this coming September. According to IHS Markit analyst Jeff Lin, an “all-new” 16-inch MacBook Pro will have an LCD panel made from LG Display. It’ll have a resolution of 3,072 x 1,920, which will be a step up from the high-end version of the 15.4-inch model’s 2,880 x 1,800 display. And as expected, it might get a new processor as well.

Aside from the 16-inch model, Lin claims the MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro might get processor updates at the same time as well. But it must be noted that this is all speculation for now. And it hasn’t been that long since Apple refreshed the MacBook Pro line.

Apple refreshes MacBook Pro, brings 8-core configuration to the laptop for the first time

Apple just pushed out a refresh for its MacBook Pro line with faster 8th- and 9th-generation Intel Core processors, marking the first time this line gets the 8-core configuration. These MacBook Pro models also get a revised keyboard design to address the issues users were facing. You can expect the 8-core configuration on the 15-inch version of the MacBook Pro. It promises to deliver two times the performance of the quad-core MacBook Pro and 40 percent more performance than the six-core MacBook Pro. The revised keyboard design, on the other hand, is coming to the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro models with Touch Bar. Apple won’t say if this new design will make its way to other Butterfly keyboard-carrying models, like the MacBook Air.

The 13-inch Touch Bar model starts at $2,399 with a new 2.4GHz 8th-gen Intel Core i5 processor that can be boosted up to 4.1GHz. Meanwhile, the 15-inch Touch Bar model with the 2.3GHz 8-core 9th-generation Intel Core i9 processor comes in at $3,699. You can check out the new models over at this link.

Apple’s rumoured new MacBook Pros might not come out this year

Peak performance: The Apple MacBook Pro 13 (2018) review

Apple has been rumoured to be developing some new MacBook Pros that were set to release later this year. But analyst Ming-Chi Kuo corrected his earlier research note that claims the products will be released this 2019. The new MacBooks, which are said to include 16- and 16.5-inch models as well as a higher spec’d 13-inch model, are expected to come out either in 2020 or 2021. As The Verge points out, the change might make more sense since the current design of the MacBook Pros are barely three years old. However, this iteration has been plagued by design flaws, so it might also make sense for Apple to fast-track its hardware release outside of its normal update cycle to put these issues to rest. What Kuo predicts would still come out this year is a 31.6-inch 6K display with a “Mini LED-like backlight design” for professionals.

Apple promises these models are thoroughly inspected, tested, cleaned, and repackaged. All come with the manuals and cables that came with the brand new models and you get the standard one-year warranty effective on the date the notebook is delivered. You can also get three-year warranty if you purchase AppleCare+ for Mac.
