WWDC 2015: Apple intros iOS 9

San Francisco - Apple today revealed iOS 9, the new operating system coming to iPhones and iPads this fall. Offering various refinements stemming from the foundation level, iOS 9 isn't a huge overhaul like what we've seen in previous iOS 7 and iOS 8 releases. Notable new features include more proactive and intelligent features that automate various small tasks and make them available to users at the most opportune time.

Most notable, iPads now have various multitasking enhancements as well as more powerful tools to play video in a picture-in-picture mode while working on other applications.

Google I/O: Android M will feature fingerprint enabled mobile payments platform

Google is hoping to catch app to rival mobile payments solution Apple Pay. Coming with the next version of the Android OS (Android M), the Android Pay system will leverage NFC to enable secure payments in over 700,000 locations in the US. Android Pay will also enable in app purchases as well as web purchases that support the service. 

Just like Apple Pay, Android's mobile payments will necessitate a fingeprint sensor to verify the user's identity. Stay tuned for more information on Android M and Android Pay.

Apple Pay coming to 11 Marriott Hotels 


Marriott Hotels will be accepting payments via Apple Pay in the countries that support it (i.e. not Canada). Just in time for the Apple Watch release on April 24, the hotel chain plans a staggered rollout this summer that will allow check in and payment using your iPhone 6 (or Apple Watch). This will be confirmed with a beep and a vibration signifying that the transaction is good. You will similarly use your iPhone to access your room. Marriott is will offer the service in 11 hotels in the US.

JetBlue to accept Apple Pay for in-flight payments

Apple Pay users on JetBlue flights will be able to pay with their iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus devices when purchasing items in-flight. Instead of fumbling for cash or credit cards, using Apple Pay will make in-flight transactions quicker and more efficiently. Video and details after the break.
