Apple Watch Series 5 might get (PRODUCT)RED variant in 2020

New rumours claim Apple will be expanding its Watch Series 5 lineup to include a new (PRODUCT)RED variant sometime next year. The Apple Watch reportedly showed up in an unspecified Apple database describing that this variant will be an aluminum model with a red finish similar to the iPod touch. The (PRODUCT)RED model will reportedly be offered alongside the silver, space gray, and gold aluminum casing options.

What isn't clear is when the model will be introduced. Apple donates a portion of proceeds from every (PRODUCT)RED devices sold to The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. Apple has sold a wide array of (PRODUCT) RED gadgets, including iPhones, iPad cases, and Beats audio accessories.

Apple goes for an incremental upgrades with the Watch Series 5

If you're expecting the Apple Watch Series 5 to be vastly different from its predecessor, then you're going to be disappointed. Like the new iPhones, the Apple Watch Series 5 adds a few changes that might not be enough for current Apple Watch users to upgrade, but it could entice new customers.

One of the most significant changes is the always-on display, which wasn't available before. The Series 5 will have new watch faces to display time and other data at all times. Apple uses a low-energy 'Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide' (LTPO) screen to make this happen. The watch will also switch from a 60Hz to a 1Hz refresh rate to make sure it conserves battery when in idle mode. The screen is also optimized for the workout app so you will see your workout metrics without having to raise your wrist.

Apple Watch Series 5 is tipped to get two new models

The Apple Watch Series 5 is expected to launch alongside the iPhone 11 on September 10th. And a peek inside the developers’ beta for watchOS 6 reveals a few more details about the new smartwatch. According to the discovery by iHelp BR, there will be two new kinds of Series 5 models: Ceramic and Titanium. The new models showed up in the pairing animations users see when they pair their new Apple Watch with an iPhone. Technically, Apple has used Ceramic before in limited edition Apple Watches for Series 2 and Series 3, but the Series 4 didn't use this material. Titanium is new, though. And it isn't clear right now if this will replace the aluminum and stainless steel models. If we are to believe the rumours, then we just have to wait a few weeks until we can confirm them.

Apple Watch Series 5 might be launched this fall

We might be getting the newest version of the Apple Watch sooner than we think. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo's new research note, the Apple Watch Series 5 is launching this fall. There haven't been any leaks about the smartwatch so far, which is unusual for an Apple product. But Kuo has a track record of being more right than wrong, so we're thinking we might see Watch Series 5 launch alongside the iPhone 11 at Apple's big fall event. The company is expected to launch the new iPhone on September 10th.

The new Apple Watch will reportedly have a new ceramic casing design. What isn't clear right now is if it'll just be for one model, or if it'll apply to all Apple Watch models. It's also being rumoured that Japan Display will supply the OLED displays for the new Apple Watch. The company will reportedly increase production starting with 15-20 percent of the orders in 2019, and up to 70-80 percent in 2021. By next year, the Watch Series 6 is expected to adopt microLED displays.
