Gaming is an arena Facebook hasn’t fully explored yet. It could probably be seen as a less problematic area for the company to focus on. And according to a new report from The Information, we might be seeing them make moves now. Facebook has reportedly signed an exclusive deal with Ubisoft to bring Splinter Cell and Assassin’s Creed to its Oculus virtual reality headsets. If true, this won’t be the first time Ubisoft has made VR games. The company has even released Oculus Rift launch exclusive titles like Eagle Flight and Star Trek: Bridge Crew. The developer has also released Assassin’s Creed-based VR escape rooms, but it hasn’t done it for home VR headsets yet. Oculus is known for having exclusive games on its platform, so this isn’t a particularly surprising move if it’s true.

One way Facebook is reportedly making its move in the gaming space is by naming former Oculus Content Vice President Jason Rubin as head of “special gaming initiatives.” And the company has its sights on acquiring studios and backing more exclusive games. But the report didn’t specify if Facebook had any studios or games in mind.

Ubisoft confirms new ‘Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’ game

A leak might have forced Ubisoft to unveil the latest game in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. We aren’t sure. What we do know is that Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is coming and it’s going to make its appearance at E3 2018. The leak happened a few hours before the official Assassin’s Creed Twitter confirmed the game’s existence. French video game site JeuxVideo-Live posted a photo of a novelty keychain promoting the unannounced (at that time) title. The keychain showed a helmet that resembled that of King Leonidas I. The site claimed the game will be set in ancient Greece.

‘Assassin’s Creed’ to get an animated adaptation

Ubisoft

Following the disappointing release of the Assassin’s Creed movie with Michael Fassbender, Ubisoft is trying another approach to adapt the game franchise into another medium. This time, they’re trying for an animation and it looks like it might be in good hands. According to producer Adi Shankar, he’ll be working on the animated version of Assassin’s Creed after he finishes work with Netflix’s Castlevania. It’s said to be an “original story” but he does have a tons of material to choose from if he takes inspiration from the game franchise itself. We don’t know what to expect with the series but we want to be cautiously optimistic about it.
