ASUS ROG Phone 2 will get the same refresh rate as the Razer Phone series

ASUS Republic of Gamers is going after Razer’s gaming smartphone line. According to a post on the ASUS ROG Weibo page, the ROG Phone 2 will now have a 120Hz refresh rate. And the Chinese fighting game Under The One Man will support the new refresh rate, with other compatible titles coming out at a later date. Tencent has partnered with the company to optimize its games for this device. The original ROG Phone had a 90Hz refresh rate for its Full HD OLED display. We don’t know right now if the new phone will use an OLED or LCD panel. At this moment, the only Android phones that offer 120Hz capabilities are the Razer Phones, and these use Sharp IGZO LCD screens. The ASUS ROG Phone 2 is expected to launch in China this July.

ASUS ROG partners with BMW DesignWorks to create the gaming laptop of the future

ASUS Republic of Gamers wanted to reimagine what the future of gaming laptops could look like, so it decided to partner with BMW Group’s design innovation studio. Together with DesignWorks, the two came up with the ROG Face Off. The goal was to create a premium machine that can cater to all needs of a gamer. This means, it’s something that can handle all your gaming requirements, while also being able to use these as a productivity tool. Taking inspiration from the BMW Motorrad VISION NEXT 100 motorcycle concept, the ROG Face Off has a less rigid form. It features more elaborate lines that still has the feel of an ROG laptop.

CES 2019: ASUS ROG Mothership reimagines the desktop replacement laptop

If we bulked up and branded the Microsoft Surface Pro as a gaming device, the ASUS Republic of Gamers Mothership is what it’s going to look like. There’s no denying the visual impact of this desktop replacement laptop. The screen and keyboard can come apart and make it seem like some sort of really bulky laptop but smaller all-in-one PC. The 17.3-inch 144Hz G-Sync screen stands on its own in a similar way as the Nintendo Switch does and it’s important because ASUS says this helps facilitate the flow of “more air into its advanced cooling system.” ASUS pairs this with powerful NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 and an Intel Core i9-8950HK processor.

ASUS opted to try out this design because based on its observation and research gamers liked to connect external keyboards to existing laptops and play games. According to their study, “gamers prefer their keyboards off to the side and at an angle.” Cooling is the other important consideration. ASUS wanted this beast of a laptop to be somewhat portable and to do that, the company opted out of liquid-cooling. Having an upright design increases the effectiveness of its air-cooling system. There’s no word on price and availability just yet but don’t expect this to be a cheap device.
