Forget the usual RGB lighting. The ASUS ROG Project Dali, unveiled at Computex 2024, boasts a revolutionary full-colour e-ink display on the lid. This innovation blows traditional customization out of the water, allowing you to personalize your laptop like never before.

While the current iteration, showcased at ASUS' booth and noted by Yanko Design, leans more towards aesthetics than functionality, it holds immense potential. The 12-inch, 1600x1200 Spectra 6 panel, typically found in high-end e-readers and specialized displays, offers incredible image versatility.

ASUS has entered the portable gaming device market with the ROG Ally, a Windows 11 device that boasts a higher resolution and faster screen than Valve's Steam Deck. However, some owners of the CAD 900 device have reported issues with SD cards, which ASUS has acknowledged as a problem with the SD card reader.

ASUS said that the SD card reader may malfunction under certain thermal stress conditions, and promised to release an update to adjust the fan speeds to keep the device cool and quiet. The company also advised customers experiencing SD card reader issues to contact ASUS to return their units for inspection.

ASUS ROG Ally is a Steam Deck competitor

ASUS Republic of Gamers' surprise announcement was masked as an April Fools' Day prank at first. But the new ASUS ROG Ally is an actual product. We don't know when this Steam Deck-like console is coming. It's just we know that ASUS ROG plans to release this handheld gaming machine. According to the company, it'll be a Windows 11-powered device with a customized Ryzen APU from AMD, which ASUS claims is the fastest AMD yet.

The ROG Ally will offer "full HD gaming," with a promise of a quiet dual-fan design. It gets the standard setup of dual analog sticks, a left-mounted D-pad, and four face buttons. There are also a few smaller buttons to access menus and settings. ASUS even advertises the chance to "experience Ally’s full potential" by plugging in the ROG XG Mobile eGPU it offers for use with its gaming laptops while streaming your games to a TV. Not much else is known beyond this, but buyers in the US can sign up with Best Buy to get alerts for when preorders start.

ASUS ROG Flow X13 gets redesigned

Source: ASUS ROG

At CES 2023, ASUS ROG released updates to its Flow series of gaming laptops. The model that gets a significant update and redesign is the ASUS ROG Flow X13. The chassis has been shrunken down by 10mm from the original Flow X13. The keyboard size remains the same, though. The hinge has also been "reimagined" for better airflow. And it features a new grippy texture on the lid.

But ASUS ROG addresses an issue with the original model. It gets an extra battery capacity from 62Wh to 75Wh. And to improve that further, it has a MUX switch and support for NVIDIA Advanced Optimus, which lets the laptop automatically switch between the taxing discrete GPU and the integrated GPU. It now also has a 1080p webcam and an IR camera for Windows Hello facial authentication. The ROG Flow X13 now runs on a next-generation Ryzen Zen 4 processor and RTX 40-series graphics.
