Instagram starts testing its BeReal clone

Source: Meta

Instagram hasn't been shy about copying features from its competitors. Aside from its new collab features, the Meta social network has a new Candid Stories feature, recreating BeReal's signature once-a-day posts using both the front and rear cameras on your phone. Instagram is testing the feature in South Africa first.

Similar to BeReal, Instagram's Candid Stories will prompt you to post once a day. You can see your friend's Candids when they post. These will appear in the Stories section of the app. Instagram hasn't elaborated on when this feature gets a wider release, but you'll definitely hear from us when it does go live.

Snapchat rolls out its BeReal-type feature

Source: Snapchat

As BeReal gains popularity, we're starting to see its feature trickle into existing social media apps. Snapchat is the latest app to offer what's made the app enticing—the option to share what's happening in the moment by taking photos with the front- and rear-facing cameras. Snapchat introduced its take first in April as part of its director mode.

Unlike BeReal's minimal feature set, Snapchat gives you more options to play around with, including different layouts for how the windows are stacked and the option to use lenses, stickers, and music. This Dual Camera feature rolls out to iOS users first, with Android getting it in the coming months.

Instagram latest experiment copies BeReal's features

Source: Alessandro Paluzzi

Unsurprisingly, a new feature Instagram is testing out copies another buzzy social media app. Just as it paterned its Stories feature from Snapchat's Stories, the Meta-owned app is now setting its sights on BeReal, an app that prompts you to take photos from the front and rear camera within two minutes of clicking the notification. Instagram is testing its take on this feature through its copied Stories feature.

The company is calling it "IG Candid Challenges." According to leaker and reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, the feature lives within Instagram's Stories section and is an opt-in feature. You'll get prompted to post a story at different times a day within two minutes. It will use the Dual feature Instagram introduced for Stories in July. While it is being tested there is no guarantee that Instagram will roll this out to users. But with the buzz BeReal is getting, we wouldn't be surprised if the company pushes through with it.
