Google Maps has a new filter to identify plug types at EV charging stations

The latest useful feature added to Google Maps will let users know what plug type is available at electric vehicle charging stations. With different charging connectors used by car manufacturers being able to identify what EV charging station has will be useful. To access the new feature, head to Google Maps > Settings > Electric Vehicle Settings >Your Plugs > Choose and save. And so when you search for an EV station, it will only show you ones that are compatible with the car you are using.

Volkswagen showcases ID Roomzz concept at Shanghai Auto Show

We saw the teaser earlier this month but now we get a closer look at Volkswagen’s new electric car concept. The ID Roomzz expands the automaker’s electric car lineup into the full-size SUV territory. This concept is a three-row SUV that will be heading into production in 2021. VW has only committed to bringing this to China so far. Style-wise it looks similar to the smaller Crozz. It has 301hp dual motors and it has a range of 280 miles and goes from 0-62mph in 6.6 seconds.

The ID Roomzz is designed with autonomous driving in mind and includes Level 4 autonomy (which is full self-driving in most conditions). The seats can recline and turn 25 degrees inward to create a “lounge-like” atmosphere when you let it take the will. The traditional dash is replaced by an all-glass panel with a giant infotainment display in the center. There are “interactive light zones” that show the info to everyone inside. We doubt this will make the initial production model, but it at least shows us where VW wants to take this tech.

CES 2019: Forget hoverboards, Swagtron's off-road electric skateboard is the new pipe dream

Swagtron was an ealry innovator in the electric hoverboard craze at CES years ago, now the company is back with an astonishing list of new electric bikes and scooters. While these make for convenient and efficient transportation, what stands out most is their beefy Swagskate off-road electric skateboard.

This looks like the love child of Batman's Tumbler Batmobile and an electric skateboard and it is glorious in its ruggedness. "Rolling on 9-inch knobby pneumatic tires and suspension trucks front and rear, this beast is boosted by dual 800-watt motors capable of 25 mph for up to 18 miles per charge. A responsive, durable 10-ply maple and bamboo deck ties it all together."

Swagskate can be used in urban and off-road environments and we can't wait to see what it can do in demos as well as find out how much it costs.

Aston Martin to launch Heritage EV program to make its old cars electric

With more and more cities shunning internal combustion engines, Aston Martin is hoping its classic cars stay relevant and legal. The company is launching a Heritage EV program where classic Aston Martins can be converted to have all-electric powertrains. If you want to drive around in your classic Aston Martin, this will be the way to go. The company is using “key components” of the technology it’s using to develop the Rapide E, a limited edition all-electric sports car the car maker plans to launch late next year.

According to Aston Martin, the first car to get a conversion plan would be the 1970 DB6 MkII Volante. They will be making Rapide E-inspired “cassettes” that can be slipped in place of the original engine and gearbox and will even be attached using the same mountings. A new screen will also be fitted inside the car’s interior, but otherwise everything else will remain the same. This means, if the owner decides to change back, that’s possible, too.
