Epic Games confirms ‘Fortnite’ will skip Play Store release

We reported a few days ago of rumours that Fortnite: Battle Royale will be coming to Android but not through the Play Store. Now, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney confirmed through a Q&A with Eurogamer that this will be the case. The reason for bypassing Google’s app store? To avoid paying Google’s 30 percent distribution fee. Sweeney said the fee is “disproportionate to the cost of services these stores perform, such as payment processing, download bandwidth, and customer service.” And while this move might seem like it could antagonize or create tension between the game developer and Google, Sweeney doesn’t see their decision affecting the relationship with the tech company. He said the company still “looks forward to continued collaboration with Google.”

‘Fortnite’ might bypass Google Play Store when it launches on Android

Android users who have been waiting for Fortnite to come to the platform might not need to get the game from Google Play Store. A leak from xda-developers found lines in the game’s mobile page source text that had download instructions. There was an image that references security permissions, which are “necessary to install any app outside of the Play Store.” With Android being an open platform, it lets users download and run apps from any source, making this a possibility. Now, what could make Epic Games considered this move is the additional revenue they can get. Through Google Play, Epic would need to turn over 30% of its revenue to Google. We should find out later in the year when the game officially comes to Android.

Bits and pieces of the ‘Fortnite’ map is disappearing in real-time

With Fortnite’s Season 5 set to start on July 12 at 4am EDT, things have started to happen in the battle royale game. A crack in the sky has been spotted within the game and it has been growing steadily since last weekend’s rocket event. Now, big chunks of the map have been disappearing. señior ox on YouTube was even able to capture the disappearance of a Motel sign while streaming his game. It was completely sucked through one of the strange rifts seen on the map.

These rifts or cracks have been spotted in different places around Fortnite Island so don’t be surprised if you see something strange while you play. Rumour has it the upcoming season will be based around different time periods in history.

‘Fortnite’ rumoured to be coming to the Nintendo Switch

It might not be wise to rely on 4chan for updates but Kotaku seems to think the leaked document discovered on the forum might be reliable enough. Rumour has it that Epic Games will be bringing Fortnite to the Nintendo Switch An anonymous source privy to Epic Games’ plans also confirmed with the site that the game will be coming to the platform.

The leaked document showed part of E3 showroom planning and it featured marketing materials for games like Fortnite, Paladins, Dragon Ball FighterZ, FIFA, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, as well as unannounced games like Killer Queen Black and Overcooked 2. It wouldn’t come as much of a surprise if the game does hit the platform, considering its popularity. Epic Games doesn’t have a comment yet on the report.
