Report: US DOJ seeks sweeping reforms for Google, including Chrome spin-off

The US Department of Justice (DOJ) is reportedly escalating its antitrust case against Google, urging the presiding judge to order the tech giant to divest its Chrome browser, according to a report from Bloomberg. This drastic measure stems from the DOJ's assertion that Google has illegally monopolized the search market.

Google Play and Vizio to support HDR10+

Samsung recently announced Google Play and Vizio now support HDR10+. The two join 92 other adopters of the high dynamic range format, which is on par with Dolby Vision, but with some differences. Dolby Vision offers 12-bit colour, while HDR10+ comes with 10-bit colour.

The update means Google Play Movies & TV can now stream HDR10+ content from its UHD collection. But Samsung hasn't specified which titles will get the feature.

Audiobooks now available in the Google Play Store

Google is making thousands of audiobooks available on the Google Play Store in 45 countries and nine languages. This enables the ability to purchase and listen to audiobooks without the need for a subscription. More importantly, the audiobooks will be accessible by Google Assistant and will work with Google Home speakers.

Just say “Ok Google, read my book” to listen to your favorite audiobook hands free with the Google Assistant on your phone or speaker, like Google Home. Try “Ok Google, who is the author?” if you need a refresher, or “Ok Google, stop playing in 20 minutes” to set a timer for bedtime reading. This is a key feature of rival Amazon on their Amazon Echo devices," says Greg Hartrell, the Head of Product Management, Google Play Books.

Google releases list of Best Apps on Google Play

 Google Canada has released their list of top apps for 2017 as chosen by customers of their Google Play Store. The top game of 2017 is Super Mario Run while Photo Editor - Beauty Camera & Photo Filters is the top app in Canada. Hit jump for the full list in all categories.
