Google Play and Vizio to support HDR10+

Samsung recently announced Google Play and Vizio now support HDR10+. The two join 92 other adopters of the high dynamic range format, which is on par with Dolby Vision, but with some differences. Dolby Vision offers 12-bit colour, while HDR10+ comes with 10-bit colour.

The update means Google Play Movies & TV can now stream HDR10+ content from its UHD collection. But Samsung hasn't specified which titles will get the feature. 

New movies we know that have HDR10+ UHD Blu-ray versions include X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, and IT: Chapter Two.

As for smartphones, brands like OnePlus, OPPO, Realme, and Xiaomi now also support HDR10+, allowing its users to both consume and shoot videos in the format—given that the specific handset can handle the capability. Based on the press release, we're assuming that the televisions from OnePlus and Xiaomi could support the technology, as long as they're compatible with the format. But we might need to get clarification on this.

Now, for AV receivers, those from Onkyo and Pioneer also gain HDR10+ support.

HDR10+ Technologies, LLC, is a joint venture between Samsung, 20th Century Fox, and Panasonic.
