‘Harry Potter: Wizards Unite’ is now available in Canada

In case you missed the news, Niantic’s newest game Harry Potter: Wizards Unite has just launched in 25 additional countries—including Canada. The AR game, which is reminiscent of the Niantic game Pokémon Go, first launched in a handful of countries to make sure the game is stable and wouldn’t overload servers with too many users at once. The freemium game lets you explore your neighbourhood and cities as you cast spells and try and defeat confounding magic so you can return “Foundables” back into the wizarding world. It’s available on both Android and iOS.

Niantic will officially launch ‘Harry Potter: Wizards Unite’ on June 21st

After testing it out in Australia and New Zealand, Niantic’s new augmented reality-based game Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will start rolling out globally this Friday, June 21st. As The Verge points out, it isn’t exactly clear how many markets will get the game during this launch date—especially with Niantic’s tweet saying to watch for more information “as the game goes live in your region soon.” Pokémon Go took a bit of time before it reached certain countries, so be prepared to wait for a bit.

Niantic tests out ‘Harry Potter: Wizards Unite’ in Australia and NZ

The Harry Potter universe is getting its take of an AR location-based game ala Pokémon Go. But for now it’s being beta tested in Australia and New Zealand. The Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store in both countries. But it must be noted that since this is a beta version, the available features, languages, design, and perhaps even the game’s overall look could change depending on what the beta players say. And as expected, there could be bugs and glitches within the game.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite finds players as new recruits of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force. Your job will be to capture and subdue rogue magical creatures and objects that escaped the wizarding world after an event called the “Calamity.” Since it’s similar to Pokémon Go, you’ll need to walk around to find encounters. If you’re interested in playing the game once it hits your area, you can sign up through the Wizards Unite website.
