Nokia's HERE maps app now available on iOS again

After having been pulled 15-months ago despite being made available on other mobile operating systems, Apple's HERE maps application is now available on iOS again. Featuring downloadable city maps, interior maps and turn-by-turn directions, offline caching, traffic information, public transit data and more, HERE maps is one of the more popular free navigation services around.

Completely overhauled, the HERE maps for iOS features free mapping data for offline use from 100 countries. Most notably the US, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Canada, Australia and Brazil. This is a real money saver for travelers who need to get around in a new city but don't want to burn through data or get hit with exorbitant roaming fees. Nokia to release global update for HERE Maps

Nokia’s HERE Maps is as close a rival to Google Maps as it can get. It’s godsend when you’re in a foreign country since you can navigate using the app without Internet connection. The app is getting an extensive update worldwide for Android and Windows Phone (there is in iOS app yet). There will reportedly be improved “water features” as well as updates for most of regional maps. Expect it to come to your device soon.

Nokia HERE Maps app shows up online

The Beta apk of Nokia’s map application has surfaced online. And the good news is it works with Android devices running Android 4.0+ or up—except the Samsung smartphones though. Some of the features included in the Nokia HERE app include offline mode, turn-by-turn navigation, downloadable maps to store onto your device, 3D mapping, and even “Speed limit warning” feature. It would be worth tinkering around with and we can’t wait for the final product to show up.

Nokia’s Here Maps to have Windows 8.1 version

If you think Bing Maps is lacking, then the arrival of Nokia’s Here Maps might provide you with the functionalities you need. Nokia claims the mapping software will make its way to Windows 8.1 devices in the coming days, first for North America and Europe users before the rest of the world.

Here Maps used to just be available on the Lumia 2520 tablet and Windows Phone 8 smartphones. Now, it will give Windows 8.1 users capabilities such as being able to load offline maps as fast as their computers can. It will also keep track of navigation routes and search history. Satellite images will be available at higher resolutions. Here Maps will also come with keyboard and mouse support.
