HP upgrades Chromebook 14 with longer battery life

HP refreshed its Chromebook 14 to give it better battery life and reducing its price by US$50. Now rated to last for nine hours and 15 minutes for the 1,366 x 768 display, it’s up from eight hours of the previous generation. The Chromebook also now gets an Intel Celeron N2840 chip instead of an NVIDIA one, which could possibly explain improved performance. It also comes with a 1080p option but your battery might take a hit with this one. Unfortunately, there’s no expansion options beyond 2GB for memory. This’ll be available in the U.S. starting November 8th for $250 or $280 if you want the Full HD version. It’s a pretty compelling product, let’s hope HP brings it here, too.

HP unveils touch-enabled Chromebook 14

HP released the new iteration of the Chromebook 14. While it carries the same name as the existing notebook, this new model has a higher resolution, touch-enabled display with increased storage and memory. It has a 1,920 x 1,080 display, 4GB of RAM and 32GB onboard flash storage (you still get 100GB Google Drive storage). But it also has an Nvidia Tegra K1 processor and it promises the same 8-hour battery life. With better specs, you can expect it to cost more than the US$300 Chromebook 14. This new Chromebook will set you back $440.

HP's Chromebook 14 is aimed at businesses

We already took a sneak peek at the HP Chromebook 11 (stay tuned for our full review) and now we received news from HP that their Chromebook 14 is apparently designed for business. This is an interesting twist for the Chromebooks which were initially seen as secondary surfing devices. The 14-inch Chromebooks are slightly more expensive than the sleek Chromebook 11.

"At its most basic, the Chromebook14 is a reliable, user-friendly, and secure mobile business notebook," HP explains. "But we’ve taken it a step beyond just your basic road warrior, offering your business a quick and easy gateway to the Google experience, including in-demand, business-ready Google Chrome apps like Search, Gmail, YouTube, and Google Drive. Google+ Hangouts is great for multiperson video chat, and you’ll have access to other business apps via the Chrome Web Store.
