CES 2019: Hyundai’s concept car is made for walking

And that’s just what it will do, if Hyundai does make this concept into a reality (at the moment it’s just been done at 1/8th of its scale), that is. Hyundai’s Elevate concept fits right into our image of living on Mars, a Boston Dynamics-like robot that can drive and walk you with its bendable legs. What a strange concept. But Hyundai’s idea is that it can be used to navigate difficult terrain, which could help everyone out from first responders to the military. Space exploration is something the automaker is also considering. The Hyundai Elvate is called an “Ultimate Mobility Vehicle.” Hyundai plans for it to be electric-powered and modular so vehicle bodies can be swapped depending on user’s requirements. As you see in the video above, it has for “legs” with each of these having a series of joints, allowing the vehicle to mimic both reptilian and mammalian walking gaits. It’s a strange, slightly creepy concept we’re still dying to see actually happen.

Hyundai wants you to BuyRight

Hyundai Auto Canada Corp just launched a program to help customers make better decisions when it comes to buying a new car. The BuyRight program offers a comprehensive suite of tools that’ll help make the transition from researching, to buying, to owning a car that much more seamless. One of the core parts of the program is the digital platform Hyundai Express Shopping. This tool lets you complete online and at your own leisure as many of the processes you usually did in-person at dealerships. It’ll let you do everything from build-and-price your ideal Hyundai vehicle with everything from the model, trim, colour, accessories, and warranty. It also provides a firm trade-in value for your existing vehicle and the option to complete an online credit application. If you want to test drive the car at your preferred Hyundai dealership, you can, too.

If you aren’t happy with your purchase, under the BuyRight Program, Hyundai offers a Five Day Car Exchange Commitment policy, meaning you can switch to a different car within five days. Hyundai’s site also hosts an online competitor comparison tool as well as access to third-party vehicle reviews to help you decide on what vehicle you plan to purchase.

Review: 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

Text and Photos by Emily Chung

I’ll be honest, my complaint with the early generation Hybrid technology was that I never felt like I was driving a car… more like I was playing a video game. There wasn’t much response or feedback from the road. Well, the technology has come a long way and one of the first hybrids I ever road tested was the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid a few years ago. I was looking forward to having it again for a road test, and you know what? I really enjoyed my time with it!

Hyundai wants to make exoskeletons more affordable for industrial workers and the handicapped

When you think exoskeletons, car manufacturers aren’t exactly the first ones you think of making these wearable mobile machines. But Hyundai is one such company hoping to make exoskeletons more affordable to a larger number of people. The South Korean manufacturer recently demoed two new exosuit prototypes—the H-Wex, which is meant for industrial lifting, and H-Mex, which is designed for helping disabled people walk. The H-Wex makes it easier to carry heavy loads for a lot of backbreaking work. Meanwhile, the H-Mex will help senior citizens or the handicapped walk. It comes with controls for helping move each leg forward, sitting down, standing up, and even walking up and down stairs.

Hyundai is currently working on getting medical certifications in both South Korean and the United States for the H-Mex by 2018. It plans to deploy demo units by 2019 and 2020 to see how industrial workers and patients react to these exoskeletons.
