Review: Apple iPhone 4S
Text, photos and video by Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla
We weren't too bothered by the fact that the iPhone 4S looked exactly like its predecessor, the iPhone 4. We had grown to like the sleek yet somewhat fragile glass and stainless steel design, which we still feel is an enduring if not iconic design.
There's still quite nothing like the look and feel of the iPhone 4, many of our sentiments for last year's model still hold for the iPhone 4S. As for the new and revised features, we gave those a proper testing and here's what we found out.
The Apple Beat: New highs and Siri-ously cool innovation
By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla
It has been a week of big smartphone releases and as I watched most of the keynote speakers go on stage and reveal the hot new models and technologies that Apple's competitors have wisely started to differentiate themselves from the iPhone and now the iPhone 4S. Larger screens, high-speed LTE data capabilities and increasingly slimmer bodies are the areas where they are focusing on.
Apple's iMessage vs. BlackBerry's BBM - Fight!
The fine folks at CrackBerry.com and The iPhone Blog put the beta of Apple's upcomng iMessage (from iOS 5) against BlackBerry's BBM. The video above shows how both interfaces look and act as well as a simple back and forth test on both messaging platform. iMessage is faster in these tests, but consider that there are far fewer users running iMessage (which is available only as a developer me beta right now) than BBM. Still, one can see that Apple thought this over very well and anyone who has been waiting for this sort of almost realtime messaging platform on iOS should be really excited. Consider too that while BBM is for BlackBerry smartphones (not the PlayBook, yet). iMessage will work on iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
