iPhone 5c credited for saving man from shotgun blast

An iPhone 5c took the brunt of a shotgun blast that was fired to kill a 25-year old British man. The iPhone 5c's polycarbonate case was deformed but not punctured, and while it received much of the impact, the victim was still seriously injured.

"[The attacker's] actions that night were extreme and shocking - the victim went outside to speak to the group about the fact they had turned off the water supply resulting in the defendant shooting him with a powerful weapon," Cheshire Police Detective Inspector Gary McIntyre said in a statement.

Launched in 2013, the Apple iPhone 5c features coloured plastic case but is reinforced with a steel frame.

iPhone seeing steady market share gain in the US

At a time where many expected iPhone sales to slow in anticipation of upcoming new models, the iPhone 5s and 5c are seeing a spike in market share in the US. According to Comscore's monthly report on US smartphone market share, Apple's market share went up to 41.9 per cent up from 41.3 per cent in February. This is remarkable considering the iPhones launched late last year and there has since been a flurry of competing smartphone releases from the likes of LG, Samsung, HTC and others.

As for other updates, Android is still the leading OS at 52.1 per cent and Android and Windows Phone market share remained the same as it did in February with 52.1% and 3.4% respectively. BlackBerrys market share is further reduced at 2.3% market share. Since most smartphone manufacturers have already played their hand this year by releasing their flagship models, it remains to be seen how much momentum Apple can ride towards the release of the 2014 iPhone which is expected to be one of the biggest in its history with a new form factor and features coinciding with the release of iOS 8.

Cheaper 8GB variant of iPhone 5c launched in certain markets

Apple has reportedly launched a cheaper 8GB variant of the colourful iPhone 5c to attract more users in the entry level of the market and hopefully get users of older iPhone 4 and 4s models a chance to run on a larger display and more updated hardware and features. Selling in the UK's Apple Store online for £429, the 8GB model joins exisiting 16GB and 32GB versions of the iPhone 5c. Canada's own page hasn't been updated to reflect the new model offering but we will keep our eyes peeled for any changes.

The iPhone 5s brings the power and features of the popular iPhone 5 in a more colourful and plastic enclosed design. While initially not as popular as the flagship iPhone 5s, the iPhone 5c has found success in the consumer market as well as in the enterprise and BYOD market with many companies opting for the cheaper iPhone to replace older office issued smartphones.
