Apple becomes the second most popular camera brand on Flickr

A testament to the popularity of the iPhone (ok, and maybe the iPad, too), Apple has surpassed Nikon as the second most popular camera brand on Flickr. Why is this significant? Well Apple doesn't make standalone cameras (QuickTake and iSight are both discontinued) but its iPhone cameras are prolific and popular. Leading the pack is Canon with 13.4 per cent, Apple folloes with 9.6 per cent and Nikon has 9.3 per cent.

iOS 8.1 coming today with features and fixes

In time to enable Apple Pay functionality in the US, iOS 8.1 is expected to roll out later on today. The update is mostly designed to help with Apple Pay features and should also make it possible to experience some of the messaging and calling features tied into Continuity features such as call and SMS relay and the return of the Camera Roll as well as iCloud Drive functionality. As with most iOS OTA (Over the Air Updates), we expect Apple's servers to get slammed for the first day or so making downloads take longer.

iPhone 6 coming to China on October 17th, preorders begin Oct. 10

Apple's most successful iPhones are heading to their potentially biggest market in China on October 17th as regulatory approvals have been granted for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus sell in the country where they are made. Demand for Apple products in China has been huge as evidenced by the number of people camping out on iPhone lines to buy unlocked devices for grey market resellers who sent the phones back to the country where they were manufactured to sell for up to three times their purchase price.

Apple has confirmed Chinese iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus preorders start on Oct. 10, with in-store availability to follow on Oct. 17. Long lines are expected.

Review: iPhone 6 Plus

Text and photos by Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

Just like when the iPad mini seemed to be a reaction to market trends (which it quickly dominated to become the most popular 7.9-inch tablet), the iPhone 6 Plus is Apple’s attempt not just to redefine the large smartphone market but to eke out a whole new place in mobile computing.

The iPhone 6 Plus is the biggest departure for Apple’s iOS-powered smartphone line in seven years, and for what has remained as one of the most conservative screen sizes in the industry.
