Marvel’s ‘Iron Fist’ gets axed after two seasons

NetflixAfter its first season gets critically panned and the second seeming to do better, Marvel’s Iron Fist won’t be coming back for a third season to redeem itself. Netflix and Marvel released a joint statement that the show will not be coming back for a third season. The statement said, “Marvel's Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew and showrunners. We're thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we've shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal Iron Fist will live on.”

Iron Fist was part of a five-show deal between Marvel and Netflix that includes shows Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Daredevil, and The Defenders. The Punisher was later added to the lineup as a Daredevil spinoff. The cancellation comes on the heels of Disney planning to launch its direct-to-consumer streaming platform that will compete against Netflix. Disney has already announced its plans to pull all Marvel feature films from the streaming service but will keep the Marvel TV shows on until these run their course.

New teaser for ‘Iron Fist’ shows its characters iconic costume

Netflix has just released another new teaser for the upcoming second season of Marvel’s Iron Fist. And this time, we get to see a glimpse of Danny Rand’s past—including a look at the classic costume his character is known for. Finn Jones, the actor behind Rand, has said before that we didn’t get to see his character in the costume he’s known for because his character was still trying to find his footing as the character.

This time though, we get a glimpse of it as Rand walks down a New York street with Colleen Wing (played by Jessica Henwick) and has a flashback of his time at K’un-L’un, showing a rather brutal fight. When Wing asks him if he’s okay, he says he was just thinking about a bad memory, which she then replied saying it was all in the past. And he goes, “I hope so,” which possibly suggests Rand’s past coming back to haunt him in this second season. Netflix will start streaming Iron Fist on September 7th.

Marvel's Iron Fist shows promise but lacks heart

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

Having just binge-watched the first half of Netflix's Iron Fist, which is their fourth Marvel series (behind the outstanding Daredevil, gritty Jessica Jones and soulful Luke Cage), and the final cog in the upcoming Defenders series, I find myself with mixed feelings for the show. Iron Fist's first season is available on Netflix.

Yes, this is another comic book story about a lost billionaire heir, who finds himself in a strange and foreign land. During his years in the wilderness, he learns the ways of mysticism and martial arts. He returns home, to the real world, where he needs to win back what's rightfully his, fit into a new society as well as battle an unknown evil.

If that spiel seems formulaic, it is because we've lived it a dozen times before.

Iron Fist is the fourth Marvel series to come to Netflix (after Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage. This debut will lead up to the upcoming The Defenders series starring all four heroes.
