The LG G5 was the biggest surprise unleashed at Mobile World Congress. A departure from the impressive LG G4 of last year, the new flagship didn’t just ramp up all the hardware specs it also ushered in an entirely new form factor with curved glass, unibody aluminum and a sleek re-imagining of core design principles.

The LG G5 is more than a flagship smartphone, it is an entire platform for creating, sharing and enjoying digital content. LG really dug in deep to create not just a powerful, attractive and multifunctional smartphone that most users would love to use and own, It devised various use cases with plug-and-play accessories that improve activities like taking pictures and listening to music.

LG G5 comes to Canada on April 8, 'Friends' to follow

One of the more exciting handsets coming to market is the LG G5 which brings a new paradigm in modular smartphone technology. The device, which stole the show at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, will come to Canada through various carriers on April 8.

The device, whihc has been widely praised and awarded for its Slide out Battery and Modular Type design, gives the user a greater, and more flexible, smartphone experience.

“The LG G5 is a game-changer for the mobile space in Canada,” said Valerie Malone, Director of Marketing, LG Electronics Canada. “The fact that Canadians will also be able to purchase LG Friends, or companion devices, means they will be able to expand the capabilities of their G5 to capture more content, including 360-degree photos and videos.”

Here are the winners of Mobile World Congress 2016

The Oscars might be awarding the best in its industry right now. But the recently concluded Mobile World Congress also awarded the best of the mobile tech industry. Some of the big winners include the LG G5 as the “Best new mobile device,” the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge as the “Best smartphone of 2015,” the “Best low cost smartphone” goes to Xiaomi Redmi 2, and the “Best mobile tablet” goes to Microsoft Surface Pro 4. There were 930 entrants this year and these were narrowed down to 170 nominees until we ended up with the 42 winners. Official LG G5 product video shows what the new flagship can do

LG certainly got the memo this year that smartphones have to be more and do more than what has long been expected of them. More than just improved features, better specs, nicer build quality and more expensive materials, smartphones need to be able to adapt quickly to the world around them and, more importantly, to their user's needs. While many of the LG G5's features aren't new, it is the first time they are featured on one device and what looks to be a solid ecosystem of accessories and applications.
