Samsung Galaxy S6 devices and Note5 tipped to be getting Android Oreo update

It has been said in the past that the Galaxy S6 was going to get Android 8.0 update. Samsung customer care representatives have supposedly confirmed that the device will be getting the update and this month will be the time it rolls out. Confirming this news, the development pages for the Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+, and Note5 on T-Mobile’s site say the carrier and Samsung “have agreed to support a new software update,” which is Android Oreo. Samsung hasn’t released an official announcement about this but we’ll watch for it.

Samsung Galaxy S5 and several other devices get security fixes

A number of devices including the three-year-old Samsung Galaxy S5 is getting an August patch that address some security issues. For the Galaxy S5, it’s getting version G900FXXS1CQH1, which comes in at 75MB and has been coming to S5 units in Europe. The Galaxy S6 line on AT&T is getting the update too as version G890AUCS6DQH1 for the S6 active, G920AUCS6EQH1 for the S6, G925AUCS6EQH1 for the S6 edge, and G928AUCS4EQH1 for the S6 edge+.

A non-Samsung device is also getting the update, too. The Nexus 6 on AT&T is getting the August patch as version N6F27I.

Here are the winners of Mobile World Congress 2016

The Oscars might be awarding the best in its industry right now. But the recently concluded Mobile World Congress also awarded the best of the mobile tech industry. Some of the big winners include the LG G5 as the “Best new mobile device,” the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge as the “Best smartphone of 2015,” the “Best low cost smartphone” goes to Xiaomi Redmi 2, and the “Best mobile tablet” goes to Microsoft Surface Pro 4. There were 930 entrants this year and these were narrowed down to 170 nominees until we ended up with the 42 winners. Supersized Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus spotted

Samsung's Galaxy S6 Edge is one of the most beautiful and powerful smartphones in the market today. In terms of build, quality and materials, it is Samsung's most impressive handset yet and one that feels worth the money. It seems Samsung wants to give phablet owners options and with the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 expected around the corner, it may boil down to whether you want a SPen or an dual Edge Display.
