Motorola to offer Moto Maker customization to the UK, Germany and Mexico but not Canada

Motorola Mobility is going to offer the Moto Maker customization option to Moto X customers in the UK, Germany and Mexico in Q2. There is no mention of having the service available to Canada, which would be an ideal candidate because of its proximity to the US (Moto Maker phones are proudly made in the USA).

Moto Maker is one of the big draws for users choosing the Moto X. It allows for various colour and texture customizations, the ability to choose storage capacities, and even personal engravings and phone startup graphics. Motorola is looking at partners to produce the phones for Europe. So those of us in Canada pining for a 32GB Wood Backed Moto X are out of luck. Sad fact.

Sort of reminds us of how the Moto G shells, which were similarly a huge feature for that device during launch, aren't even being sold in Canada.

Android 4.4.2 KitKat comes to Moto X on Rogers and Fido

A nice parting gift from Google to Moto X owners in Canada right after yesterday's bombshell announcement (that Motorola's mobile and manufacturing business will be sold to Lenovo), KitKat 4.2.2 is available to Fido and Rogers users. This puts Canadian Moto X owners in the exclusive KitKat club before US carriers who are still soldiering along with the 4.4 update they received last year.

Moto Assist update for Moto X now enables voice response to texts while driving

US models of the Motorola Moto X smartphone that are running the Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade received a notable update in the Moto Assist feature which automates tasks when you are driving, in a meeting or sleeping. The latest update brings the ability to respond to text messages via voice when the Moto X senses you are driving (which it can do with it's motion co-processor). This is good news for all Moto X owners since it will extend the functionality of their device when the update is made available by their respective country carriers. I plan on testing the new Moto Assist feature on my developer Moto X to see just how much of an improvement the update brings.

Moto X looking to make a splash in Europe

After launching its entry level Moto G globally late last year, Motorola seems to be poised to follow thi up in Europe with 'a new addition' to the European Motorola family of products. This is most likely their flagship Moto X, could be made available to European carriers. Hopefully with the Moto Maker customization option in tow and the latest version of Android KitKat oreinstalled. All will be revealed on January 14!
