CIBC Mobile payment app for BlackBerry Z10 now live

The much-talked about joint venture "SureTap" between CIBC and Rogers - which enables NFC payments among a variety of new smartphones - has finally landed on the BlackBerry Z10. As you can see from the diagram above; CIBC users' simply connect their debit cards to the app, and tap their devices at selected participting merchants to place - and complete - mobile payments.

The service was previously only available on the BlackBerry 9900 and select Android devices in the Rogers lineup.

Sony launches new NEX-5T Camera with Wi-Fi, NFC and Fast Hybrid AF

Sony is 2013's standout camera manufacturer. They've already hit high marks with some stunning high end point-and shoot cameras including the sublime RX100 MK II and the RX1r  compact full-frame cameras. Now they're securing their NEX-5T camera which mates a large, high-resolution 16.1 effective megapixel Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor with the latest WiFi, NFC and Fast Hybrid Auto focus in a compact size.

RIM Receives Approval from Visa for NFC Mobile Payment Solution

Olympic triathlete Simon Whitfield made the first mobile credit card transaction using Rogers Suretap on a NFC-enabled BlackBerry smartphone.

Research In Motion announced that its Secure Element Manager (SEM) solution for NFC (Near Field Communication) mobile payments has been approved by Visa. RIM’s SEM is the backend solution for carriers that can securely manage credentials on SIM (subscriber identity module) cards installed in all types of NFC-capable mobile devices.

Samsung Canada puts NFC in the service of free music

Near Field Communication (NFC) technology has long been heralded as the key ingredient for the mobile wallet. A feature that would magically enable smartphones to be used as a mode of payment, access and transaction. That's taken a while to happen, specially in Canada. Samsung Canada has decided to put NFC to good use by enabling the download of free music in Toronto’s underground walkway.
