OnePlus dismisses ‘jelly scrolling effect’ on OnePlus 5, claims it’s normal

Some OnePlus 5 users have been complaining about this jelly-like effect when scrolling through an app on the phone. OnePlus just addressed, or should we say dismissed, this issue saying that it’s a normal thing for the device. In a statement, they say “the OnePlus 5 uses the same level of high-quality components as all OnePlus devices, including the AMOLED display. We've received feedback from a small number of users saying that at times they notice a subtle visual effect when scrolling. This is natural and there's no variance in screens between devices.”

Because of this announcement, unfortunately, it would seem filling a warranty replacement won’t get you anything. But if this bothers you and you’re still well within the 15-day return policy, then that seems to be your only recourse at the moment.

OnePlus rolls out new OTA for the OnePlus 5

With the OnePlus 5 just starting to get into the hands of those who bought the device from its early sale, it looks like the company is getting busy making sure those new handsets are working fine. Over the weekend the phone got an update to OxygenOS 4.5.2 with different stability fixes and optimizations. Now, there’s another over-the-air update that’s fixing bugs like dropping Wi-Fi signal, a Google Translate issue, and a fix for the Expanded Screenshot feature. Version 4.5.3 of OxygenOS also introduces some tweaks and optimizations for the System, Camera app stability, and auto-brightness adjustment. The update size is 54MB and is rolling out now. You can head to Settings > System Updates > Check for Updates.

OnePlus CEO teases black and white photo sample taken by the OnePlus 5

The camera is looking like a big selling point for the OnePlus 5, as a previous teaser suggests. This time we’re finding out more about the upcoming “flagship killer” and its camera’s capabilities. OnePlus’s CEO Liu ZuoTu uploaded on Weibo a monochrome shot taken by the smartphone. It shows off how similar the dual camera setup of the OnePlus 5 will be with the Huawei P series. From the looks of the image, it’s looking like a pretty promising device, in terms of photography.

While we don’t know the specs of the device yet, some of the rumoured features include a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with 2,560 x 1,440 resolution, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 6/8GB of RAM, 64/128GB of storage, and it’ll run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system. Camera specs are said to be a 16MP + 16MP setup in the rear as well as a 16MP front camera.

OnePlus all but shows what the OnePlus 5 looks like (at least from the back)

OnePlus isn’t a company that keeps its secrets that close to the chest. Back when the OnePlus 2 was announced, they revealed the new features of the phone ahead of its launch. So, when a leaked image of the OnePlus 5’s top half of its rear shows up, the company releases a high-resolution version of the image that shows the dual-camera setup, the mute switch, and what it’ll look like on top. OnePlus attaches to the image the tagline “Dual Camera. Clearer Photos.” And we have to say it looks eerily similar to the new iPhones. OnePlus is unveiling its new flagship on June 20 at 12 p.m. EDT.
