OxygenOS 12.2.8.8 update brings July security patch, Bitmoji AOD to OnePlus 9 series

OnePlus has begun rolling out the newest update for the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro. OxygenOS 12.2.8.8 brings features like the July 2021 security patch. The update also brings Bitmoji avatars to the Always-On Display, with your onscreen character changing its stance depending on your location, the weather, and other things.

This update also brings the OnePlus Store to more users. This pre-installed app allows you to get device support, access to the OnePlus online store, and member-only benefits and discounts. The update has rolled out to my OnePlus 9, so you can expect it to come to your OnePlus 9 or 9 Pro in the coming days.

OnePlus says OxygenOS will continue to run on its devices even with OPPO merger

Embed from Getty Images

Even as OnePlus and OPPO merge their internal teams, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau assures its users that its OxygenOS platform will continue to be available on its global devices. But while that may be the case now, we aren't entirely sure that it won't change in the future. The Android 12 Beta on the OnePlus 9 shows ColorOS at its core, which Max Weinbach has pointed out in a tweet. In China, OnePlus devices already ship with OPPO's ColorOS since last year.

In case you didn't know, OPPO and OnePlus (along with brands like Vivo and Realme) are all brands under the Chinese multinational conglomerate BBK Electronics. Since last year, Lau has taken on a more significant role in overseeing parts of both OnePlus and OPPO. Now, he's merging more teams in both companies internally with a promise of improved efficiency and faster software updates for their users. It would make sense to join operating systems in the future eventually. For now, we have to wait and see what Lau and his team decide to do.

OxygenOS 10.0.7 coming to the OnePlus 7T to improve camera performance

The latest OxygenOS 10.0.7 update brings some needed improvements to the OnePlus 7T, including improved camera quality and the November security patch. OnePlus also throws in some bug and stability fixes along with RAM management optimization. The update also fixes the black and white screen issues some of the phone's owners are experiencing. The launch speed of the apps has also been improved.

One weird thing about the update, though, is that it shows up as 10.3.0 on their phones. OnePlus is aware of this problem and will let users know once they've fixed this issue. OnePlus 7T owners should be receiving the update notification now, so keep your eye out for it.
