OnePlus 7 Pro gets August security update ahead of Google Pixel devices

One benefit of using a Google Pixel device is getting updates and patches ahead of its competition. But it looks like OnePlus beat Google to the punch this time. The company has started rolling out the OxygenOS 9.5.11 update to OnePlus 7 Pro users, which brings with it the August security patch. Some of the other updates include enhanced Adaptive Brightness, improved sensitivity of the touchscreen while playing a mobile game, and optimized accidental touches with the notification bar while in a call. The Google Mobile Services have been updated to June 2019 as well. There are other bug fixes and performance improvements included in this update.

As for what issues the August security patch fixes, we won’t know until Google releases the notes for it. This version of OxygenOS is rolling out in stages, though. So if you own a OnePlus 7 Pro and don’t have it yet, you just have to wait for a bit.

OnePlus clarifies the random notifications some OnePlus 7 Pro users received

If you’re a OnePlus 7 Pro user and received a baffling notification on your phone, then you should know you’re not alone and it was a mistake. The company clarified that the push notification wasn’t a result of a hack or attack. Instead, it was an error on the company’s part as they’re testing the Android Q update that’s set to be released later this year. OnePlus assures its users that their personal information wasn’t at risk and the company is implementing new processes to prevent this issue from happening again. The notifications the users got were jumbled up English letters and non-standard characters. When the notification is pressed, it would open up the web browser and show a “Page not found” message.

Latest OxygenOS update improves camera and system features on the OnePlus 7 Pro

OnePlus just rolled out OxygenOS 9.5.4 (international) or 9.5.5 (EU) for the OnePlus 7 Pro that improves both the camera and overall stability of the device. The features Double Tap to Wake and Ambient Display have been optimized. An issue involving delayed audio with the Bluetooth headset while playing games has also been fixed. When it comes to the camera, image quality when shooting in HDR has also been improved. The same goes for low light photos. OnePlus also fixed white balance and focus issues. There are also the usual bug fixes and improvements included in the update.

According to Android Police, if you use a VPN to connect to Canada, you can grab the update now. Or you can wait for the OTA to come to your device.

OnePlus 7 Pro debuts the new version of OnePlus Camera

OnePlus updates its Camera app for the OnePlus 7 Pro by adding deeper integration with Google Lens and changing up settings in the app. A long press on the viewfinder will trigger the feature and as 9to5Google mentions, it works offline to some extent. Without the long press, you need to turn on the “Smart Content Detection” setting to allow the app to recognize content, which ranges from phone numbers, website, and barcodes and QR codes. A couple of settings have also been taken out. These include Smile Capture and Auto Nightscape Scene Detection. But the aforementioned Smart Content Detection feature has been added alongside Auto Nightscape. You can now also arrange the different camera modes in the slider at the bottom, so you have easy access to the modes you use frequently. You can even turn off some of the modes entirely.

The OnePlus Gallery gets a refresh, too. The Collections Carousel has a cleaner interface with smaller thumbnails and better organization. And the file viewer now shows the date at the top of the user interface and the Favorites icons has been moved to a new location, too. As we mentioned, version 3.2 of the app is currently only available on the OnePlus 7 Pro but expect it to make its way to other OnePlus devices via the Play Store soon.
