For Android users who prefer Google's stock apps over anything smartphone manufacturers have to offer, OnePlus has some good news for you. The more budget-friendly OnePlus Nord will use Google's Messages and Duo apps instead of the company's default apps. OnePlus didn't elaborate the reasons behind this choice, but it said the Google apps would deliver the "smoothest" experience for its users.
There are several things we know about the OnePlus Nord. It's the company's return to the midrange market, it promises to offer a " great camera, a really fast, smooth and fluid experience," and it's coming out on July 21. But now we learn more about its cameras and design based on rumours and others confirmed by the company itself.
The OnePlus Nord's design gets leaked by reliable leakster Evan Blass through a photo of the front and back of the phone. OnePlus previously confirmed on a Facebook post that it'll have six cameras all in all. These photos show the vertical layout for the lenses at the back and two sensors arranged in a pill-shaped hole in the top-left corner of the screen.
While the teaser video for the OnePlus Nord makes it look like there are only three rear cameras on this handset, reports suggest otherwise. The Nord will reportedly come with four sensors at the back, with a 48-megapixel primary lens, an 8-megapixel wide-angle camera, a 5-megapixel macro sensor, and a 2-megapixel portrait lens. This will supposedly be paired with a 32-megapixel + 8-megapixel dual camera setup in front. It's a decent setup for a midrange phone that's expected to be priced around US$350. But, of course, real-world performance is still something that needs to be proven. Camera performance hasn't been a strong suit for OnePlus, but let's see if they change the tide here.
OnePlus drops a new teaser that gives us a quick peek the Nord series' first handset, and we do mean a quick look since it appears like five seconds in a 1:25 video (around the 0:57 mark). From what we can see, it sports a dual selfie camera housed inside a punch-hole located at the upper-left side of the display. The screen is flat instead of curved. The rear's design shows the camera sensors arranged vertically on the upper left side of the panel. The back cover curves on both sides. There are the brand name and its logo, but there is no fingerprint sensor in sight.
OnePlus promises the Nord to be priced below US$500 (around CA$679), and it'll run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor. Other rumoured specs claim it'll have 6GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage, 6.55-inch OLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, 48-megapixel primary camera, 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a single selfie shooter. But there are contradicting reports about the camera specs. The OnePlus Nord is expected to launch in India on July 10.
