WhatsApp to finally get video calling feature

A long-awaited feature is finally coming to WhatsApp: free video calls. The ability to make one-on-one video calls is coming to the app in the coming days. It can be accessed in the same location you access voice calls, under the phone icon in one-on-one chat windows. For now there won’t be group video calls as WhatsApp wanted to make sure the feature can work on older devices or those who have slower connections.

Strings app lets you take back sent messages

Ever sent an embarrassing photo or message to an old flame you wish you could take back? If both of you are Strings users, you can do just that. This new messaging service will let you take back any type of message you sent on the service, including videos, photos, and emails.  It will let you delete these messages from their server’s and your recipient’s device, even if they’ve seen it already. It will also let you know if someone grabbed an item you sent them as well as warn them about it. It is currently an iOS only app and is free to download.

Pinterest gets private messaging feature

Pinterest is looking to keep its users engaged in the site with a new private messaging feature integrated into the service. To access private messaging on Pinterest, users have to start a conversation by sending a Pin to another user that also comes with a message. You can then continue your conversation without using Pins after that. It is also possible to send group messages this way.

Pinterest is hoping this would help users plan events or other things in the future. “This is different from other messaging platforms because conversations are around a Pin and are focused on planning something for the future,” a spokesperson wrote in an email to press. It doesn’t really matter how you plan on using this feature but it would seem Pinterest just wants to make sure you stay engaged on their platform longer.
