Razer Project Hazel is now Razer Zephyr

Razer gives its Project Hazel an official product name and an announcement for a beta test ahead of its release later this year. Now called the Razer Zephyr, the company is opening a beta test for this wearable air purifier. According to a tweet from Razer, it is "designed to be safe, social, and sustainable," and that it "sports 99% BFE, a secure silicon face seal, and anti-fog coating."

Razer claims this mask with built-in RGB lighting and an active air filtration system is effective as an N95 mask. Since its initial launch at CES 2021, Razer has added internal lighting and a silicon face seal. We don't know yet how much the Razer Zephyr will cost.

Razer CEO confirms you'll be able to purchase its smart RGB face mask

One of the concepts Razer showed off at CES earlier this year was a high-tech face mask called Project Hazel, and it looks like the company will turn that project into an actual product. Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan confirmed their plan with Yahoo Financebut he hasn't said when it would enter production.

He divulged why Razer decided to develop Project Hazel. He said Razer realized people would want to mask up even after getting vaccinated as an extra precaution. Plus, many countries won't be able to vaccinate their entire population within the next couple of years, so Project Hazel will provide that additional protection for those who want it.

No, you can't buy it, but it certainly fits the times. Razer's Project Hazel concept shows what a gaming hardware company can do with something as essential as a face mask.

Razer takes the N95-class face mask and adds some smart features to it. Some ideas included in Project Hazel are active ventilation and auto sterilization. Its bacteria filtration efficiency pods promise to trap 95 percent of airborne particles. It has a case that charges and sterilizes the mask's ventilators. It uses replaceable filters alongside the ventilators on its pods, so it's more of a sustainable solution.
