Report claims Nintendo Switch will get a smaller version

Earlier this week, Nintendo’s president said there weren’t any immediate plans to release a new version of the Nintendo Switch console. But that isn’t stopping the rumour mill from going on. A report from Japanese publication Nikkei claims there is a more compact version of the Switch in the works and that it might come out early this year. A translation of the story says, “They’re taking measures as for what is to come—one of those being a smaller version of the Switch. The company said that ‘couldn’t comment’ on their plans for the product, but has informed multiple suppliers and game development companies that they intend to release them as early as 2019. According to their affiliates, they are ‘miniaturizing the console with portability and playing outdoors in mind, as well as cutting features to reduce the price and expand the userbase.'”

Aside from that, there are rumours that Nintendo Switch Online is getting an update, too. But there weren’t any specifics on what that update is going to be. But it should be expected to come this year as well. At this point, this report still has to be taken with a grain of salt. But we will keep you posted for any updates.

Latest iOS beta hints at ‘AirPods 2’ getting ‘Hey Siri’ support

A strange quirk of the existing Apple AirPods is you can’t go “Hey Siri” and have the earbuds respond to you immediately. You’ll need to double-tap on them first. But that might change in the rumoured next iteration. 9to5Mac’s Guilherme Rambo discovered a prompt in the just-released iOS 12.2 beta that reads, “Talk to Siri with your AirPods or iPhone by saying ‘Hey Siri.’” And since that feature isn’t available with the current AirPods, it’s assumed that the next-gen version of the AirPods might be getting this feature. With iOS 12.2 coming out to the public later this year, it’s being suggested the “AirPods 2” might be ready for a launch soon.

Sony PlayStation’s holiday Twitter promo might be teasing the PS5

The Twitterverse is abuzz following Sony’s release of its free 2018 winter holiday theme for the PlayStation 4. One eagle-eyed Twitter user suggests that Sony might have just teased the PS5 in the theme. Mike Peterson points out the the “S” in “Holidays” is different from the “S” in “PlayStation.” From the looks of it, these are different and the S in PlayStation does look like a number 5. Sony’s own Shawn Layden responded cryptically to comments about Sony having “good things on the horizon” by saying “See you in the new year.” But as other Twitter users point out, this could also just allude to the fact that this Christmas is the fifth holiday season the PS4 is on sale. For now, we won’t know. And it looks like we’ll have to wait until 2019 to find out more. You can see the holiday theme in action and the contested letters (or letter and number) in the video above.

We might see Samsung’s foldable Galaxy X smartphone next month

It might seem like a long shot but a teaser for Samsung’s upcoming developer conference hints at the appearance of the rumoured foldable Galaxy X phone. The South Korean company is drumming up excitement for the press conference by tweeting an animation that shows two lines unfold from a single hinge to form a right facing arrow pointing at the dates of the conference (November 7, 2018). The words “Where Now Meets Next” appear next to it. We won’t be surprised if we do see, at the very least, a prototype of the phone as Samsung’s mobile chief DJ Koh has previously hinted that we would see the phone before the end of the year but it’ll be available in 2019.
