Facebook reactions now show up in 360-degree videos in VR

If you watch 360-degree videos while you use the Samsung Gear VR, you’ll now be able to share your emoji reactions there. At the same time you’ll be able to see the reactions of other users float by as you watch. Back in March, Facebook-owned Oculus let Gear VR users sign into their Facebook accounts on the headset for a more personalized feed of stories. Oculus also plans to bring the emoji reactions to 360-degree photos in the coming weeks. While we won’t get the full Facebook experience on VR anytime soon, this is another step in bringing social features to VR.

By Sonya Davidson

Most dads will tell you that Father's Day is no big deal. Even celebrity Chef Ricardo Lavillee mentioned in a recent interview that he cherishes the time with his family more than anything else and finds joy when his kids simply know how he likes his coffee in the morning. For the record, it's a decaf Nespresso. Having said that, I'm sure the dads in my life would get some joy out of receiving an unexpected gift. ‘Minecraft’ comes to the Gear VR

Minecraft fans you can now play the game on Samsung’s Gear VR. It’s already available on the Oculus Store for US$6.99 (about $8). To play the game though, you would need a separate Bluetooth gamepad. Gameplay comes in cinema mode or full VR. Cinema mode makes it look like you’re sitting on a bench looking at the screen while you play or you can be completely immersed in the Minecraft world. TechCrunch’s Lucas Matney warns it gets a bit dizzying sometimes. The game is on the Oculus Store but it isn’t available for the Rift just yet.

Samsung brings the Gear VR to a new rollercoaster ride at Six Flags Magic Mountain

Samsung and Six Flags Magic Mountain bring thrill seekers into an entirely different world with the new ride. The tech giant is bringing the Gear VR to the new rollercoaster ride called “The New Revolution Virtual Reality Coaster.” Riders have to wear the Gear VRs while on the rollercoaster while a virtual reality video is shown onscreen. The ride’s speed is 55mph and has the first giant loop in the world that is 45 feet in diameter and 90 feet high. Located at Six Flags Plaza, it has 3,457 feet of twisted steel track you’ll be “racing” in while “saving the planet.”

During the soft launch, Six Flags Magic Mountain’s Season Pass Holders got to see a VR video of a futuristic battlefield in a planet threatened by an alien invasion. Another one of the videos you’ll watch while on the ride is being a co-pilot of a fighter jet that takes off from the edge of a building. Your aircraft will fly through the city and go up, down, and twist along the track. The ride will be officially open to the public on April 21st.
